: In the USA, OSHA frowns on using a straight needle with a syringe, a winded infusion set (butterfly) is fine. Venipuncture is another name for venesection. If you don't have a local anasthetic, try telling the child they can pitch your elbow if it hurts, try it on yourself first, and have stickers ready to give when you are done with the draw.
