I bought remote optical slaves for my Nikon D40. I turned my on camera flash down to 1/32 and it is the perfect master. I have better luck with them than my radio frequency remotes. My optical slaves have never misfired, unlike the rf. I picked up the optical slaves on Ebay for less than $10 each and it included shipping.

It cut of my comment/post...but the point is, if no one calls that month to pay me for a service does that mean I'm not a professional? I have all the equipment, business license, business cards, business bank account, web site, I understand contracts, copyright, etc etc I am as professional as the guy that makes $40K a year but just don't have the business he does. Does that make me less than him? I'd like to have you respond to this post. Thanks.

I have to take issue with this topic about a professional photographer. I understand and can accept the idea of what a professional photographer means. Now let me ask you...where I live it takes literally $8,500/ month to pay for our mortgage, groceries, bills for a 4 person family. Now, my wife happens to make about $10,000/mo as a professional software engineer. Now, over the years it's taken her roughly 13 years to get to that level. I challenge anyone, professional or otherwise to try and raise a family on what the Bureau of Labor & Statistics says the median income for a commercial photographer in California is. Just because you can't make $120K/Yr. as a photographer and it takes that much to support your family and pay for your equipment etc, does NOT mean your not a professional. Now, if I made $25K /Yr. and my wife made for example $75K a year, does that mean I'm professional...

Well, not sure if Anthony reads these comments but I have to say after listening to two videos, I feel pretty confident because what he said in those videos I already knew or have tried or am doing. The interesting thing is that I've gone to literally thousands of photographers web sites. Of course; the ones I go to are the ones that do what I am doing or I see myself doing. The one question that keeps popping up in my mind is, when I read that these photographers have these big clients like Nike, or Johnson & Johnson, or Newsweek, Canon, etc I wonder...do these photographers get called out of the blue one day to do an assignment for these companies based on only seeing their work on a web site? Or, does the photographer somehow approach these huge companies first, by sending them his/her portfolio? Maybe both, but then if your sending a portfolio that is expensive so you want to mak...

Anthony, what settings are you using for your flash? I would like to use my SB-800 with my Holga, but I'm not having much success yet. Any suggestions?

Camera lucidas are really cool art aids. It can be hard to find at art supply store near you to get one, but you can buy them at AncientMagicArtTools.com
