Wow. Don't use this article if you think your horse has laminitis and is foundering. Yes, there are some truths here but this is too simplistic, not nearly accurate enough and if you followed just this advice your horse could die. If you suspect your horse has laminitis, call your vet pronto. If you catch and treat laminitis early enough, you may prevent your horse from foundering. First, you need to understand that founder is one of the possible results of laminitis. It refers to the rotation of the coffin bone. I think whoever wrote this article has become confused with hypoadrenocorticism and hyperadrenocorticism wih regard to treatment. The treatment described is actually one for hyperadrenocorticism or Cushing's disease, the opposite problem to hypoadrenocorticism or Addison's disease. Treatment of Addison's involves replacing the cortisone and aldosterone that affected dogs do not produce. Cushing's disease or HYPERadrenocortism on the other hand is treated with Lysodren.
