I must add that I do not have years of experience as a grant writer, but I do have years of experience in research and writing. I just started my grant business and it is actually doing quite well from a client building perspective. If I had to give any advice to someone like myself, I would say that you can certainly start a grant writing business, but you need to at the minimum be well versed and creative as a writer and resourceful as a researcher. I also network "alot" and that is a big key to success as well. Lastly, get your name out there: business cards should be your new best friends as you need to hand them out as often as you are in public. I agree with the article regarding brochures and flyers and other print media (with the exception of your business cards).
