by Shirley Philbrick on 08/28/08 : Lots of concise information. Also, I would add to remember to look for the situations, timing, and people, that will propel you toward your goals and dreams. It's not just about working hard; it's also about seeing the opportunities that may get you where you want to be even faster, or easier ! Great article, thanks ! ... more »   respond »

by Clarissa Steffen, Ed.D. on 08/18/08 : Kaycee: If you use an entire tube (approximately 8 oz) of Aloe, I would use about one teaspoon of grapefruit complex liquid and the same amount of Vitamin E. I use the grapeseed extract by adding a little at a time until I get the desired consistency. I think about 2-3 tablespoons should work. You want to use a very small amount of the herb tea (water and oil issue). The essential oils are definitely done to your taste--use as many drops as needed to give the scent you prefer. Good luck and enjoy. You can always keep a little extra Aloe to add if you mixture gets too much liquid you can thicken by adding a little more Aloe, just a hint. Clare ... more »   respond »

by deep prakash on 04/10/08 : Hello Clarissa! Your article may be quite educational, but I feel sorry about your attitude towards autistic children. Are they harbingers of 'death syndrome' to the hopes of parents? Your views that an autistic child is devastaing for parents not only sounds false but smells malicious too. Weren't Newton and Einstein autistic? Were they unwanted and good-for-nothing? In fact, the lateral thinking ability of an autistic mind is far better than so called 'normal mind'. Even I was diagnosed autistic when I was 3. 19 years later i.e. now, I am in final year Electronics Engineering having good scores in all sems. I ve already got placed in verizon wireless. I think, Autism is not a disease, it's just a mental condition which one can get over with time. The only thing you need to worry about an autistic child is how fat they become sociable with age. I thank my parents for they looked after ... more »   respond »

by Clarissa Steffen, Ed.D. on 05/08/08 : Your heartfelt response exemplifies the problem with diagnostic labels. Labels can be hurtful, never my intent. Autism is considered a disorder (not a disease). As I referenced, we are learning about the "spectrum" of autistic disorders. Conditions such as Asperger's Disorder or Childhood Disintegrative Disorder are some other examples of what we are learning to understand about development. There are many aspects of brain development that are still a mystery. Glad to hear you had a happy outcome, thank you for sharing. I don't think any life is "good for nothing." Childhood autism is a difficult road for a family, and many parents mourn because their child has suffering. On that point we can agree to disagree, respectfully! ... more »   respond »

by Shirley Philbrick on 08/28/08 : People in general are far too self conscious, making their movements stiff. Taking "dance as if nobody is watching" literally and turning on the music in your own home can be very liberating ... try it while doing housework ! ... more »   respond »
