I actually know someone who had his uncle help him as a third party. The uncle called on his behalf to each of his credit card companies. He told them that he as the third party would pay all of them off immediately if they could help reduce what his nephew owed. Each of the three credit cards took hundreds and even thousand dollars off each total. He reduced what his nephew owed by 1/3. Then they paid it off for him and cut up his cards! Now he pays his uncle back a little each month with a 7 % interest rate (given to him by his uncle) instead of 24% which was on average what he was being charged with and his credit score is climbing. To sum up....great idea and if you can find someone to help you do this, you won't have to do step 2!!! :)
