: I forgot to add - I've never had to use hot water. After the bubbles stop I run cold water to see if it's unclogged. Sometimes it takes a minute or two depending on the clog because though it may drain fine at first, the clog may only be partially dissipated. If the drain still runs slow.. do it again. It's fun trying to get that stopper on before the bubbles ...but it's impossible. Have fun.

: Actually, if you use 1 cup of baking soda and push it down into the drain... don't let it mound up and then pour 1 cup of white vinegar in it will IMMEDIATELY start to bubble so be ready to plug the drain with the stopper or a towel or anything that will keep the bubbles in. You won't believe the unclogging action! Depending on the clog, you may still hear or feel the bubbling action for several minutes. If you open it too fast the bubbles will burst up into the sink.
This solution is environmentally safe, it works,it's cheap and you can use as needed.
