First of all, shingles dont belong on a flat roof. Secondly, the article forgets to mention rubber or single-ply roofing which compromises about 80% of flat roofs.

You don't need to worry about trying to drill a staight hole in the peak of a roof and you also won't weaken the ridge pole by drilling into it.
