I would like to doubly stress the importance of the point in the Tips & Warnings, "Prompt removal of dead critters is mandatory to avoid a foul odor", having been subjected to this stench myself. The problem was at my place of work which was in an old Church hall. There were so many little rooms, nooks and crannies, etc. that we couldn't locate the bad odour until someone spotted dozens of bluebottle flies in a particular area. The rat was under the floorboards in a store cupboard. Because they don't always die immediately, the problem is that the rats will wander away from the poison so you have to really search, even when you're not sure there's anything to look for.

Watch your little one for ideas of things that really grab their attention. I found that my ceiling fan was a source of utter amazement to my baby, so now when she needs changing I position her changing mat directly under the fan and switch it on. I think it also helps to have a little routine so they know what you're about to do - make a display of getting the mat out, the wipes, opening or folding the nappy (diaper) and having a particular phrase (I always say, "bum-change time"). With everything ready before the baby is laid down, the change is very quick so it's ok if the distracting object only holds their attention for a few moments.
