I bought the furminator for my two goldens -- it simply doesn't work...or I'm not willing to brush my senior too roughly. At any rate, a biweekly bath in baby shampoo and daily brushing with a regular brush will work wonders.
Also, be careful about recommending oils -- flaxseed oil has been attributed to re-absorbition of litters in pregnant bitches. My senior is on a fish, flax, and borage oil blend and my breeding bitch is on a rivercaught salmon oil.
