What should you do first? Work your supervisor's issues first. Makes sense doesn't it? Usually your supervisor only sees about 10 - 50 % of your work. Do what she or he want first and then you can worry about the rest later. This tip helped me in my 20 yr Air Force career in addition to the principles you discussed in your article.
