How to Reset a Cadillac ECM
by David ClairMost Cadillac vehicles have an on-board computer, or ECM, that tracks many aspects of the vehicle and driving conditions. Many different situations will trigger the computer to display a warning on the instrument panel. After the issue that generated the fault code is repaired or resolved, the engine control module may need to be reset for the computer to recalibrate itself and dismiss the fault code.
Step 1
Turn the ignition switch to "Off."
Step 2
Pull down on the top of the fuse panel lid beneath the steering column. Remove the fuse panel lid.
Step 3
Grasp the fuse that is labeled "ECM" or "ECU." The inside of the fuse panel lid shows a chart indicating where each fuse is located.
Step 4
Pull the fuse straight out of the fuse panel to remove it.
Step 5
Turn the ignition switch to "ON" without starting the engine. Leave the Cadillac in this state for five minutes.
Step 6
Turn the ignition switch off.
Step 7
Replace the fuse into its slot in the fuse panel. Press in on the fuse until it is fully inserted. Replace the fuse box cover.
