Having a bun in the oven shouldn't keep you from having a blast on Halloween and getting dressed up with everyone else. If you're noticeably pregnant, there are plenty of costume ideas to choose from, whether you're aiming for cute, silly, sexy, or just fun.
Paint Your Bump
Think of all the round things you see every day -- soccer balls, beach balls, tires, smiling faces, fall jack-o'-lanterns -- and paint your bump to resemble one of them. Alternatively, paint a road sign on your belly -- 'BUMP' in the familiar yellow diamond is one clever idea. People will be too busy exclaiming over your painted bump to notice the rest of your outfit, but choose a comfortable single-color top and bottom that match the paint. (If you choose a sports ball of some kind, athletic attire will complement it nicely.)
Famous Pregnant Women
Use your growing belly to your advantage and poke fun at well-known pregnant women. Nadia Suleiman, better known as Octomom, is a funny choice for this costume. Get a long black wig and carry a baby bag with eight bottles. Or look to the movies and TV for inspiration. Actress Ellen Page's "Juno" character, the pregnant 16-year-old girl, is easily imitated: just get a pair of jeans, a long shirt-dress and a light jacket. Wear your hair in a ponytail and have a slew of snarky comments at the ready.
Scandalous/Funny Pregnant Women
Step out of your gracious mother-to-be role for Halloween with a head-turning costume. Get a black robe and habit and go as a pregnant nun (your husband or boyfriend can accompany you as a priest!) to get loads of double-takes all night. Or find a cheap, ill-fitting (but not too uncomfortable) wedding dress in a thrift shop, put your hair in a messy ponytail, and go as a trashy pregnant bride -- go barefoot if you can, or wear flip-flops if that's too uncomfortable. For a little shock value, dress in a cheap prom dress and hold a fake cigarette in one hand and a liquor bottle (don't forget to wash it thoroughly) filled with water or punch in the other -- you're a pregnant high school prom-goer!
