Ideas for Homemade Crafts to Sell

While many people enjoy making crafts as a hobby, some choose to sell their crafts. From homemade wood crosses to Christmas decorations, use your imagination to create the perfect crafts to sell. A trip to your local craft and retail store is all you need to get started.

Wood Crosses

  • You will need several wood crosses and acrylic paint from your local craft store. Paint individual crosses or stacked crosses to sell. Make stacked crosses by purchasing a small, medium and large cross. Paint the crosses three different colors and glue them together. For added decoration, glue beads and marbles to the cross. You can also spray the cross with a glitter spray to make it shiny. Make a zebra and hot pink cross using black paint, pink paint, zebra tissue paper, glue and decoupage glue. Paint the zebra tissue paper using the decoupage glue on a large cross. Paint another cross black and hot pink, and glue it on top of the decoupage cross. Decorate the cross with beads and glitter for a perfect girl’s room decoration piece.

  • Find an assortment of beads at your local craft store and online to make your own jewelry to sell. Small, medium and large beads are available in a variety of sizes. You will also need crimping beads, pliers, thread, string, jump rings and pendants. The types of jewelry you can make include necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. Some ideas include using shell beads to create jewelry with a “beach” theme or Christmas pendants with green and red beads to make holiday-themed jewelry.

Glass Blocks

  • Glass blocks are perfect for Christmas decorations, but they can be used all year long when you paint or create other designs on the blocks. Purchase clear glass blocks from your local craft store. These blocks are available at home improvement stores, but you will have to use a diamond bit drill to drill a hole in them for the lights. Most blocks found at craft stores already have the hole pre-drilled for these projects. Paint the glass block using paint for made for glass in a variety of designs. For example, you can paint rustic stars on the blocks for someone with western décor or paint wine glasses and bottles of wine for someone with wine kitchen décor. During the Christmas holidays, wrap a bow around the glass block to make the block look like a present. After you decorate the glass block, insert a strand of 20 to 25 Christmas lights to make the block light up. Other ideas include making the blocks in holiday themes. Paint red, pink and white hearts on a glass block for Valentine’s Day or paint several pastel Easter eggs on a glass block for Easter.
