Since 1960, American company Skyline has produced over 460,000 recreational vehicles. Among travel trailers, fifth-wheel trailers and destination trailers, Skyline offers various models including the Layton, Nomad and Weekender. Its Aljo trailer, however, headlines the company's offerings. In 2011, Skyline offers the Aljo in a variety of options, each with differing specifications. These specs vary per Skyline dealer and change over time as the Aljo evolves from year to year.
Aljo Travel Trailer
The Aljo Travel Trailer is Skyline's standard model. Standard Ajos measure between 24 and 33 feet long depending on interior layout, of which Skyline offers about half a dozen options. All 2011 Aljos feature a cambered steel frame chassis with steel outriggers, all-wheel electric brakes, a polyethylene underbelly, two propane tanks, steel-strap reinforced walls and tampered roof construction. On the inside, campers will find solid wood-framed cabinets, window valences, embossed vinyl flooring, a double-door refrigerator, an acrylic kitchen sink, an ABS tub and plush bedroom carpet.
Skyline's 2011 Aljo Ultra-Lite trims the size of the Aljo, coming in between 19 and 25 feet depending on interior layout. Dubbed a “tow-friendly” trailer, the Ultra-Lite has an aerodynamically curved front end for improved gas mileage. Ultra-Lite models have a fiberglass exterior, aluminum frame sidewalls, a steel I-beam chassis and a tempered roof. Standard interior features of the Ultra-Lite include all-wood drawers, laminate countertops, a folding indoor-outdoor dinette table and a two-burner range.
While the Aljo Joey has a similar form factor when compared with the Ultra-Lite, it sports a one-piece rubber roof alongside upgraded graphics and aesthetics. The 2011 Joey model retains the standard Aljo interior features, but adds designer touches including mortise and tenon hardwood cabinet doors with glass insets, deluxe window treatments, high rise faucets and a deluxe stereo system with a DVD player and exterior speakers.
Aljo Fifth Wheels
The 2011 Aljo Fifth Wheels RV is similar to the standard Aljo Travel Trailer with the addition of a loft area over the trailer hitch, which houses the trailer's queen bed. The Fifth Wheel's exterior features tapered roof trusses for water runoff, custom graphics, laminated sidewalls, tinted windows and an enclosed underbelly. Fifth Wheel trailers add a deep-basin kitchen sink, a three-burner range and a deluxe bed headboard to the interior.
Skyline's diminutive Aljo Retro is the company's most compact and affordable Aljo RV, measuring only 15 or 20 feet long depending on interior options. On the outside, the 2011 Retro sports a seamless one-piece aluminum roof, a tubular steel chassis and a single propane tank. Inside, campers will find maple cabinets, a three-cubic foot refrigerator, a microwave oven and a 16,000-BTU furnace.
Aljo Destination Camping
Destination RVs in Skylline's 2011 Aljo line cater toward residential trailer park living. As such, these large trailers including framing for additional air conditioners, 25,000 BTU furnaces, microwave storage shelves, three-burner cooktops, 17-cubic foot refrigerators and king-sized beds. Optional value packages add such features as 31,000 BTU furnaces, pleated shades, sofa beds, outdoor showers and decorative wall borders.
