Luncheons can be formal or informal.

When thanking volunteers for helping an organization complete its mission, a luncheon is a nice gesture to bring everyone together. There are ways to make it more fun and special for the volunteers as well as for those who have benefited from the work of the organization.

  1. Choose a Theme

    • Decorate your luncheon venue in a fun or fancy theme. Depending on what organizations the volunteers worked for, you can tailor the theme to fit. If the volunteers worked at a day camp, school or any other place involving children, you could decorate the walls and tables with cutouts and bulletin board trims that are used in elementary school classrooms. If you would prefer the luncheon to be more formal, setting up candles, vases and centerpieces with colored stones would be beautiful and understated.

    Ask Someone to Speak

    • Ask someone to speak at the luncheon. It could be a leader of the organization, one of the volunteers, or even someone positively affected by the volunteers' work. The speaker could address the purpose of the organization, present a little bit of history and explain how the volunteers have helped the organization to complete its mission. If the volunteer list is small, the speaker could address each individualy and thank him for his efforts.

    Plan Games and Prizes

    • Ask local businesses and vendors to contribute prizes and gift baskets that can be raffled off or given away as door prizes. If a lot of businesses and vendors are willing to donate a lot of merchandise, it may even be possible to create a gift set for each volunteer as a thank-you for their work. For the rest of the luncheon, games could be set up to play for entertainment, such as Bingo.
