1988 Ford Ranger Torque Specs

Since 1983, Ford's compact truck for the North American market has been the Ranger. The final production year of the first-generation Ranger was 1988. Three engines were available in 1988: a 2.0-liter I4, a 2.3-liter I4 and a 2.9-liter V6. The 2.0-liter has 80 horsepower and 106 foot-pounds of torque, the 2.3-liter produces 90 horsepower and 134 foot-pounds of torque and the 2.9-liter offers 140 horsepower and 170 foot-pounds of torque.

2.0-liter I4 Torque Specifications

Tighten the Cylinder Head in two steps: first to 50-60 foot-pounds, then to 80-90 foot-pounds. Tighten the Main Bearing Bolts in two steps: first to 51-60 foot-pounds, then to 80-90 foot-pounds. Tighten the Rod Bearing Bolts in two steps: first to 25-30 foot-pounds, then to 30-36 foot-pounds. Tighten the Crankshaft Pulley Bolts to 100-120 foot-pounds. Tighten the Flywheel to Crankshaft Bolts to 56-64 foot-pounds. Tighten the Intake Manifold in two steps: first to 5-7 foot-pounds, then to 14-21 foot-pounds. Tighten the Exhaust Manifold in two steps: first to 5-7 foot-pounds, then to 16-23 foot-pounds.

2.3-liter I4 Torque Specifications

Tighten the Cylinder Head in three steps: first to 22 foot-pounds, second to 51-55 foot-pounds, then turn 90 degrees. Tighten the Main Bearing Bolts to 65-75 foot-pounds. Tighten the Rod Bearing Bolts to 19-24 foot-pounds. Tighten the Crankshaft Pulley Bolts to 85-96 foot-pounds. Tighten the Flywheel to Crankshaft Bolts to 47-52 foot-pounds. Tighten the Intake Manifold in five steps: first to 3-6 foot-pounds, second to 6-11 foot-pounds, third to 11-15 foot-pounds, fourth to 15-18 foot-pounds, then again to 15-18 foot-pounds after the engine has warmed up. Tighten the Exhaust Manifold to 20-30 foot-pounds.
