Specifications of a 1988 Dodge Ram

The Dodge Ram was introduced by Chrysler in 1981 as a tough, powerful pickup truck. The 1988 model Ram came with one basic cab and two different cargo bed lengths. The original manager's suggested retail price for the 1988 model started at $12,168. The Ram truck brand was separated from Dodge in 2011 and continued under Chrysler LLC.

Body Dimensions

The 1988 Dodge Ram was a large pickup truck with a wheelbase that was either 115 inches or 131 inches, depending on which cargo bed was used. The length also varied from 190.8 inches to 210.8 inches. Width was consistent at 79.5 inches, and height varied slightly with 73.2 inches on the shorter model and 73.2 inches for the longer truck. Curb weight differed as well, with the smaller truck trim being 4,100 pounds and the larger being 4,205 pounds. Both trim levels had the same curb to curb turning circle of 49.2 feet.

Interior Dimensions

The 1988 Ram was able to seat up to three occupants. The model offered internal comfort dimensions of 40.1 inches of headroom, 40.4 inches of legroom, 64 inches of shoulder room and 65 inches of hip room. The longer bed version had slightly less headroom, with just 40 inches.

Engine, Transmission and Drivetrain

Only one engine was available for the 1988 model Ram, that being a 5.2-liter, 170-horsepower V-8 with 260 foot-pounds of torque. The engine had a bore and stroke of 3.91 and 3.31 inches, respectively. The truck also only had one choice of transmission available, which was a three-speed automatic. The model only came as a four-wheel drive.

Fuel Tank and Economy

The fuel tank on the 1988 Ram could hold up to 22 gallons of regular unleaded gasoline. With the truck running at maximum efficiency, a journey of around 308 miles was possible on a single fill-up. Fuel economy figures in the city topped out at 13 mpg and improved slightly on the highway to 14 mpg.
