The Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) was a well-known producer of marine outboard engines and stern drives in the 1970s and 1980s, competing mainly with MerCruiser. Problems with the company's Cobra line of stern drives, however, resulted in a widespread recall in the late 80s and the company eventually went out of business. OMC engines and stern drives are no longer produced, but many are still used. OMC's 1993 line included several 5.8-liter outboard engines that differ only in their horsepower rating, which ranges from 235 to 290 horsepower. All other engine specs are identical.
