Vacationing in the Caribbean can be a great way for single seniors, or seniors traveling alone to meet new people and travel to exotic locations. Because the Caribbean is such an easily accessible and highly trafficked area, single seniors can enjoy a relaxing, entertaining and even luxurious vacation without spending a lot of money.

Reserve a Room at a Resort

AARP’s travel center through Expedia’s website makes it easy to book a vacation package at a resort that’s tailored to single seniors. The Renaissance Aruba Resort and Casino is one such property recommended within AARP’s travel center. Operated by Marriott and located on a 40-acre private island within Aruba’s capital of Oranjestad, the property features an adult-only hotel that single senior travelers will find appealing. The Renaissance Marina Hotel does not allow guests under 18 years of age and offers guests an adult-only pool. Seniors can travel around Aruba or stay at the resort, which includes malls, restaurants, beaches, pools, spas and a 24-hour casino with table games and slot machines. The Okeanos Spa features a full line of facial, skin and hair treatments as well as massage services. The Renaissance Mall and Marketplace offers clothing, accessory, jewelry and specialty stores as well as live entertainment that single senior travelers will enjoy.

Bunk at a Bed and Breakfast

The Carringtons Inn located on St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands is a quaint bed and breakfast with comfortable rooms and a complimentary hot and cold buffet breakfast each morning. Recommended through AARP’s travel center on Expedia’s website, the Carringtons Inn is close to interesting sites like Holy Cross Catholic Church, For Christiansvaem and the St. Croix Government House. Get to know the bed and breakfast’s owners and your fellow guests over breakfast each morning and enjoy learning each other’s travel stories. With only five guest rooms, the Carringtons Inn provides an intimate atmosphere conducive to meeting other travelers. Single seniors may even find friends for trips to nearby attractions. The beach is not far, so senior travelers will find it easy to spend a relaxing day snorkeling, or even sunbathing at the inn’s outdoor pool. All rooms at the Carringtons Inn feature refrigerators, air conditioning and in-room safes. Bathrobes and coffee and tea makers are also in every room.

Consider a Cruise

The Caribbean is perfect for cruising as evidenced by the large number of cruise lines that offer cruise vacations to the many islands. Several cruise lines cater to single cruisers and the upscale line Silversea Cruises provides an attractive option. The line keeps its passenger counts low, accommodating about 300 passengers per trip. Its pricing is all-inclusive which means it costs more upfront but there are no hidden costs. This is a nice option for a single senior who prefers to vacation on a budget and wants to know ahead of time exactly what his vacation is going to cost.

Onboard, added amenities like a cocktail reception provides an avenue for seniors to meet other single cruisers. Additionally, Silversea provides male Social Ambassadors who will accompany female solo cruisers on excursions and serve as dance partners at onboard entertainment. Silversea sometimes offers discounts or reduced airfare to single senior cruisers and, according to Cruise Critic, single passengers comprise about 10 percent of their client base. These additional touches make Silversea a pleasing option for seniors interested in meeting new people and traveling to scenic locations.
