A home temperature monitoring device enables homeowners to maintain comfortable and safe temperatures throughout the four seasons. The device eliminates concerns for unoccupied homes, which may experience cold temperatures that freeze pipes. It also monitors heat levels in a home to protect occupants from high temperatures. In addition, home temperature monitoring systems help cut costs for running heating and air conditioner units in the home by enabling homeowners to control and maintain desired temperature levels. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Home Guard

    • Home Guard is a home temperature monitoring system that alerts homeowners when the home's temperature falls to unsafe levels. Developed by Temperature Guard Microtechnologies, the system features a rechargeable backup battery and reports detailed information of the temperature changes along with the duration of each change. Home Guard continues to operate without power and requires an analog phone line. (See Reference 1)

    Basic FreezeAlarm and HeatAlarm

    • The Basic FreezeAlarm and HeatAlarm were developed by Control Solutions. They are home temperature monitoring devices that dial to one designated telephone number to alert homeowners of temperature changes. The FreezeAlarm alerts homeowners of temperature drops starting at 45°F (7°C). The HeatAlarm alerts homeowners of rises in temperatures starting at 85°F (34°C). (See References 2 and 3)

    Home Saver

    • Q Systems Engineering developed Home Saver to give homeowners the ability to monitor and control home temperatures and activity remotely. Home Saver allows homeowners to be notified of any changes in the home from any telephone. Users can also upgrade the system to monitor area power outages, flooding and humidity. Home Saver displays alert information as the CallerID readout. (See Reference 4)

    PhoneOut Freeze Monitor

    • The PhoneOut Freeze Monitor was developed by Reliance Controls. The unit is plugged into a 120-volt electrical outlet and alerts homeowners when the temperature drops below 42°F by calling up to five individual telephone numbers. The unit must be connected to a touch-tone telephone line and is enabled with a battery backup in case of power outages. (See Reference 5)

    Freeze Alarm Dialer

    • Protected Homes developed the Freeze Alarm Dialer to enable homeowners to be automatically contacted with the home's temperature drops below 45°F. The system continues to make the alert call until it is acknowledged and operates during power outages. The Freeze Alarm Dialer alerts homeowners when the unit needs a battery replacement and does not interfere with telephone answering services. (See References 6 and 7)
