Uses for Oil of Oregano P73

Even before the founding of the Roman Empire, people used oregano oil for medicinal purposes. Chinese doctors used it for intestinal problems, such as diarrhea and indigestion. Greek healers used it for wounds, snake bites and poisoning. In Britain, as early as the 1600s, oregano oil was a treatment for colds. American colonists, with few medical resources, used it for everything from wounds to intestinal problems. Today, what had been folk medicine has become the subject of scientific investigation with some promising discoveries.

  1. Choosing the Best Product

    • There are many different types of oregano oil, with varying concentrations of effective components. Oregano P73 is a standardized blend of wild oregano, containing at least 73 percent polyphenols, plus over 50 other phytochemicals. A P73 formula is at least three times more concentrated than ordinary oil of oregano. When shopping for top-quality oregano, consumers should check that the product is derived from pure, wild oregano and has “P73” on the label.

    Killing Infections

    • The P73 formula is the most extensively tested oregano product today. Research shows that it is effective against bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. For external use, it can kill infections of ringworm and athlete’s foot. It may also reduce the severity of psoriasis, eczema, insect bites and staph infections. On November 20, 2008, “Medical News Today” reported the work of a team of British researchers who discovered that a concentration of just one part of oregano to 1,000 parts water kills the hospital superbug MRSA. In fact, it was more effective than eighteen antibiotics they compared.

    Dental Care

    • Mixing a few drops of oregano oil in a glass of water for gargling or on your toothbrush you can killing mouth bacteria as you brush. This decreases the possibility of bleeding gums, an early sign of gingivitis. This also helps to protect you from having bacteria seep into your bloodstream. The American Heart Association affirms that this bacteria can form blood clots that may lead to heart attacks or strokes.

    Digestive Disorders

    • Clinical studies and traditional usage show the power of oregano oil to combat diarrhea, bloating, ulcers, parasites, Listeria, E. Coli and Salmonella. Oregano also stimulates digestion by stimulating bile flow, and often calms an upset stomach.

    • Some people report benefits from using oregano oil as an essential oil in aromatherapy. They have found relief from sore throats, sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory problems. Some report reduction of fatigue, balancing of emotions and a clearness of thought. One warning: Dilute well before use, as oregano oil can irritate the skin.

A team from the National Polytechnic in Algeria discovered eighteen ingredients in oregano oil that could serve as natural pesticides. Researchers are narrowing down this list to discover those that are safest, most effective and can be produced on an economical basis.
