The Volvo XC90 is a midsize SUV that the Swedish auto manufacturer introduced in 2003. XC90s varied little in appearance and performance between their introduction and the millennium's second decade, but there are variations in engine specifications. Volvo has sold the XC90 with slightly different wheels from one model or model year to another, but all XC90 wheels have identical specifications for proper installation.

About Wheel Bolt Torque

If you are installing wheels on your vehicle, you need to know the recommended specifications for wheel bolt/lug nut torque so that each wheel is installed properly and operates safely. If you tighten the bolts with too much torque, you can strip the lug nut; stretch or break a wheel stud; or distort the wheel, broke rotor or brake drum. If you do not use enough torque, the wheel may not be secure. Use a torque wrench to measure torque and use a crisscross pattern on the wheel as you tighten the bolts.

XC90 Wheel Specifications

All Volvo XC90 models have wheel bolt torque of 105 foot pounds. The wheels have a 108mm five-lug pattern with 14mm x 1.5mm bolts.

Wheel Installation

When installing your wheels, there are several sizes of torque wrenches you could use. Make sure you have one that fits the type of wheel bolts and torque you need. For the XC90's specifications, use a 10mm wrench and turn it at least 7.5 times. Since the wheels have a five-bolt pattern, tighten in a star pattern. After traveling between 50 and 100 miles, re-torque the bolts after they have had some time to break in.
