When Hewlett Packard released its first computer in 1966, the tower was the size of a small closet and the keyboard was as bulky as a typewriter. Since then, Hewlett Packard computers have gotten smaller while their capabilities have gotten much more diverse and practical. The HP Pavilion ZE5700 series is a mobile notebook computer series designed to perform well at home or on the go.

Processor

  • The processor of a computer lies at the core of its computer power. Microprocessors determine to a large extent how quickly the computer can complete tasks, how much the computer can accomplish simultaneously and how advanced a program the computer can run. The HP Pavilion ZE5700 series computers are equipped with a Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor. This processor operates at up to 2.66 GHz and has a 512 KB L2 cache.

Video

  • Graphics cards help determine the type of games that can be played on the computer as well as the maximum resolution available for video playback. The Pavilion ZE5700 series computers include an ATI Mobility Radeon 4X video card. This type of card is an accelerated graphics port (AGP) chip and features 3-D architecture acceleration. This chip is integrated on the motherboard and does not include dedicated graphics memory, but shares up to 64 MB of memory with the main computer memory. Because of this, games with demanding graphics needs such as "The Sims 3" or "World of Warcraft" will not be playable on the ZE5700 series computers. The maximum possible resolution for the ZE5700 series display is 1,024 by 768 pixels.

Connections

  • The ability of the computer to connect with other devices helps provide it with additional capabilities. The ZE5700 series notebooks come with an integrated Ethernet port, integrated wireless 802.11 B/G Internet connectivity, three USB ports, one parallel port, one headphone jack, one microphone jack, a 15-pin VGA port for an external monitor, one S-Video TV-Out, one RJ-11 connection for dial-up Internet and one 32-bit card bus.

RAM

  • Random access memory, or RAM, acts like the computer's short-term memory and provides the computer with instant access to recent programs or files. This allows the computer to perform more tasks at once or to perform very complicated tasks which require thousands of file recollections such as a constantly refreshing online game. The ZE5700 computer series comes standard with 512 MB of DDR SDRAM and can hold up to 1024 MB between its two RAM slots.

Storage

  • Although complicated processes use short-term memory like RAM, the files, programs and settings are all stored in the computers long-term memory, or the hard drive. The ZE5700 series of notebooks come with 40 GB of hard drive space.
