The SR20DE is one of the more popular engines produced by Nissan over the years. This engine was used in several vehicles from 1991 through 2001: Nissan Sentra SE-R, Nissan Sentra SE, Nissan 200SX SE-R, Nissan NX2000 and Infinity G20. Through its life, the SR20DE saw very few changes, and the few it saw were relatively minor.
The SR20DE had the same horsepower rating from 1991 through 1999; it produced 140 hp at 6,000 rpm, except in 1994, when it produced 138 hp. From 2001 through 2001, some minor mechanical changes boosted it to 145 hp at 6,000 rpm.
The torque rating was 133 foot-pounds at 4,800 rpm from 1991 through 1999, except in 1994, when it dropped to 132 foot-pounds. In 2000 and 2001, the torque rating was 136 foot-pounds at 4,800 rpm.
Depending on the year and vehicle in which it was installed, the SR20DE got 23 to 24 mpg in the city. On the highway, the SR20DE got 30 to 32 mpg, depending on the year and model.
The SR20DE was a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. It had 16 valves, which means there were four valves per cylinder. It had a double-overhead-cam (DOHC), which means there were two camshafts atop the cylinder head.
From 1991 through 1999, it had a 3.23-inch bore -- cylinder width -- and a 3.68- inch stroke -- piston travel inside the cylinder. From 2000 through 2001, it changed to a 3.39-inch bore and 3.39-inch stroke. From 1991 through 1999, it had a 10.3:1 compression ratio, and from 2001 through 2001, it decreased to a 9.5:1 ratio.
