Patio Paver Layout Ideas

Patio pavers provide an attractive alternative to concrete or wood and are also usable for pathways, driveways and areas around swimming pools. Pavers come in a variety of shapes and colors, allowing you to create different patterns and designs while blending in well to the surrounding environment. Other desirable features of patio pavers include their durability and nonslippery surface. When deciding on a layout for your patio, you are limited only by your space and budget, so use your creativity.

  • Your patio doesn't have to be a traditional shape like a square or rectangle. Use your patio pavers to create a layout of a different shape. These different shapes add an element of visual interest to your yard. You could go with a circular shape, and use patio furniture like curved benches and round tables. Other shape options include a pyramid, octagon and oval. If you have a large enough yard, you can even have two distinctive patio areas, each in a different shape.

  • Create patterns in your patio paver layout. This effect is accomplished by using pavers of different shapes and sizes. A subtle pattern can be created by something as simple as placing a square border of triangular pavers within the larger patio shape. You can also vary the patterns by color. For example, create different shapes like circles throughout the patio using pavers several shades darker or lighter than the main area. Another option is to define the different spaces on your patio by using a different color or pattern in the area. For example, you can go with dark gray pavers in the area where the grill goes, light gray in the lounge area and black pavers in the area where the dining table goes.

  • If you want to break away from a traditional patio paver layout, instead of patterns go with pictures or lettering. Come up with a creative picture, and use the patio pavers like mosaic tiles to bring it to life. For those who frequently host outdoor get-togethers for sports fans, design the logo in patio pavers. You can also include your family crest or name in the paver layout.
