A step van is a walk-in automobile that is traditionally used by delivery companies such as UPS or FedEx to allow deliverers to easily get in and out of the van during numerous stops. The GMC Safari offered a line of step vans from 1990 to 2005, and the 1992 Safari gained a more powerful V6 engine and higher horsepower, according to Edmunds.
The 1992 GMC Safari step van contains a 4.3 liter V6 engine. Horsepower specifications range from 150 to 200 horsepower depending on the model. Maximum torque also depends on the model, ranging between 230 and 260 at 2,800 rpm. Neither turbocharger nor supercharger are standard or optional in the Safari step van.
Performance and Safety
The 1992 GMC Safari step van has three transmission options: four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. Estimated fuel economy is around 16 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway for the all-wheel drive model and 15 miles per gallon in city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway for the four-wheel drive model, according to MSN Autos. The only standard safety specification in the GMC step van is an anti-lock brake system with four-wheel disc brakes for added driver control.
All 1992 GMC Safari step van models have three doors. Other external specifications depend on the model. For example, the Cargo Van model has a curb weight of 3,503 pounds and has a wheelbase of 111 inches, 176.8 inches in length, 77 inches in width and 74.5 inches in height. In addition, the Cargo Van has 65.1 inches in track front and track rear and a turning diameter of 39.50 feet. Other exterior specifications such as splash guards or a rear spoiler are not available in any model.
