Craft Projects With Scrabble Tiles

Save

Use Scrabble tiles for more than just playing the classic game. There are limitless possibilities for turning these small wooden tiles into adorable crafts, attractive home decor, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and even functional wall art. To keep your projects affordable, buy letter tiles online in bulk or shop the flea markets and thrift stores in your area for castaway games.

Christmas Ornaments

  • Scrabble tiles that spell out Christmas words such as "Noel," "Joy," or "Peace" look adorable hanging on the Christmas tree. Place the tiles spelling out the word on a Scrabble tray and remove the excess length of the tray with a small hand saw. Hot glue the tiles onto the tray and glue a ribbon loop to the back to hang it on the tree. You might also set these small trays of inspirational Christmas prose on mantels and counter tops around your home.

Coaster

  • Make a fun coaster with 25 Scrabble tiles that spell out whatever you'd like. Decoupage the tiles to a piece of cardboard using 5 rows of 5 tiles. Allow the decoupage to dry and add two or three coats of varnish. Glue a piece of felt to the bottom of the tiles once they're dry.

Bulletin Board

  • Reuse an old Scrabble board and tiles by turning them into a bulletin board and push pins. You'll need to drill holes in the corners of the board to hang it. Create Scrabble tile thumbtacks by gluing the flat-headed tacks onto the backs of the tiles. Use sandpaper to roughen the back of the tiles then attach the thumbtacks with epoxy. Let the tiles dry overnight then hang your board and poke the tiles into the board.

Jewelry

  • Scrabble tiles can also be used for jewelry making. Glue one to a pin to wear on a sweater, or decoupage a picture to one and use it as a pendant by attaching it to a ribbon or cord. You can make Scrabble tile bracelets or even glue a couple to a headband. Make earrings by gluing a tile to an earring loop.
