Outdoor Games for a Church Easter Party

Save

Christmas and Easter are the two most important holidays for a church. Easter designates the observance and celebration of Christ's resurrection. Churches conduct many activities during this time including musicals, skits and special services. Churches emphasize Easter to children though parties which feature outdoor egg hunts and games. The purpose of these activities is to introduce the meaning of Easter to kids while having fun.

Scavenger Hunt

  • A popular scavenger hunt uses "resurrection eggs." These are large, plastic eggs filled with symbols of the resurrection such as crosses, spices and purple cloth. Adults give each child or each team a list of clues to look for in their eggs. Once they find them, they cross the items off their lists. The first child or team to find everything on their list will be declared the winner. This games provides a fun alternative to the traditional egg hunt and teaches children about the Easter story at the same time.

Races

  • There are several fun relays and races kids can play that are Easter-centered. Adults divide the children into two teams and fill two buckets with plastic eggs. The kids have to pick up an egg with a spoon and race each other to a designated stop and empty it into another bucket. Teammates will then pick up an egg and continue until the all the eggs are deposited in the other bucket. A variation of this game is called the bunny hop balloon relay. Kids have to race each other while hopping with inflated balloons between their knees. If the balloons pop during the race, the child has to go back and get another one and continue the race.

Pinata

  • Pinatas are popular party activities. At an Easter party, kids can take turns hitting egg- or rabbit-shaped pinatas until the pinata breaks. Everybody gets to grab the goodies that hit the ground. A creative twist to this game is played using suspended eggs. Plastic, candy-filled eggs can be hung from trees or poles. The children are blindfolded and given a stick to hit the eggs. They get to keep the candy or other items in the eggs.
