How to Keep Fresh Flowers in the Refrigerator

When you have fresh flowers for a floral arrangement that you want to keep as fresh as possible, keeping them in the refrigerator is a good way to store them. Most fresh flowers will benefit from the cool temperatures. Flowers that originate in tropical regions are exceptions; do not place ginger blossoms, orchids or anthuriums in the refrigerator because these flowers require constant temperatures above 55 degrees. Storing fresh flowers near fruit in the refrigerator may significantly reduce their viability in a flower arrangement.

Fill the vase with cool water.

Remove the flowers from the packaging if they are loose flowers for a floral arrangement. If the flowers are a corsage, boutonniere or bouquet for a formal occasion, leave the flowers in the original packaging from the florist without disturbing them.
