Chevy Aveo Head Torque Specs

Chevrolet introduced the fuel-efficient subcompact Aveo in 2004. According to Edmunds, "Chevy Aveo is representative of a new generation of inexpensive small cars that sacrifice little in terms of features or comfort, especially in light of what similar offerings used to be like in earlier decades." The Korean auto manufacturer Daewoo, a subsidiary of General Motors, manufactures the Aveo.

The 2010 Chevy Aveo Engine

Chevy continues to use the same 1.6-liter, in-line, four-cylinder engine that appeared in the 2004 Aveo, though the horsepower has increased from 103 to 108 over the years. It is always best to check the torque specs for a specific model year of a vehicle, rather than simply the model as a whole, as the torque specs for the cylinder head can change from year to year even if the engine remains basically the same. The cylinder head torque specs are the same for all trim levels of the 2010 Chevrolet Aveo. The cylinder head is attached with 10 bolts that are sequenced in two rows of five. When referring to the cylinder head torque specs, the first row is sequenced 9-5-1-3-7, and the second row is sequenced 10-6-2-4-8, with bolts 9 and 10 closest to the front of the engine, and bolts 1 and 2 opposite one another.

Bolt Torque Specs

The bolts for the cylinder head on the Aveo's 1.6-liter engine should be tightened in five separate steps. For the first step, each bolt should be tightened in sequence from 1 to 10 with 18 foot-pounds of torque. The next four steps in tightening the cylinder head bolts are based on the degrees the bolt is turned rather than the torque applied to the bolt.

Tightenening Sequence - Next Steps

Following the same 1 to 10 sequence, tighten each bolt 60 degrees, then repeat the process two additional times, for a total of three 60-degree turns on each bolt.

Final Tightening Sequence

For the fifth step in tightening the cylinder head bolts, tighten each bolt an additional 10 degrees, following the same 1 to 10 sequence as before.
