Ouija Board

Video of the Day

Made popular by Parker Brothers, the Ouija Board is a game that supposedly allows communication with the spirits. Players place a planchette—a small wooden or plastic heart with a plastic window—on a flat board that consists of numbers, letters and symbols. Players place their fingers on the planchette and ask questions of spirits. If the players contact a spirit, she will communicate her message by making the players push the planchette to different numbers, letters and symbols to spell out her message. A minimum of two players must operate a Ouija Board, but use caution, as some believe that the power of the Ouija Board is great and can open up doorways into spirit worlds that you may not want to have opened.

Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board

Spook teens by the supposed levitation powers of this game. To play, one person lies on her back on the floor and closes her eyes. Several other players surround her—a minimum of five. They place their pointer and middle fingers of each of their hands underneath the person lying on the floor. Quietly, they begin to chant, "light as a feather, stiff as a board" and increase the volume of their voices as they proceed. Using their fingers, they lift the player lying down off the floor. The fact that the team lifts the player by just fingers will make her feel like she is lightly being raised off the floor, as if by magic.

Bloody Mary

This game is not for the faint of heart. Tell guests one of the stories of Bloody Mary—of which there are several variations. One variation says that Mary Worth, a victim of the Salem Witch Trials, is Bloody Mary, and another says that Bloody Mary is Mary Tudor, the Queen of England during the Tudor Dynasty. After telling them the story, have party guests assemble in front a mirror to try to summon the spirit of Mary. Turn off the lights, and light a candle. While looking in the mirror, guests say "Bloody Mary" a minimum of three times. Legend has it that the ghost of the woman or bloody handprints will appear in the mirror. The legend goes on to say that anyone who sees the ghost will suffer terrible consequences, such as being sucked into the mirror and trapped with the ghost or being found dead and covered with claw marks.
