Dallas, Texas, has three miles of underground tunnels beneath the downtown district. The four major entrances are only open during weekday business hours. The tunnels are mostly used to connect businesses together and are a cool retreat for the downtown workers during the summer months. Some restaurants are located in the tunnels.

Dakota's Retaurant

Dakota's has an above ground entrance located by the Lincoln tunnel. Patrons descend 18 feet in a canopied glass elevator to the restaurant. Dakota's Restaurant has a 5-tiered granite water wall and the floors are made of hand cut Italian Carrera marble; it also has an outside patio area for customers and the windows from the patio let light into the underground restaurant.

Sonny Byran's Smokehouse

Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse is in the Republic Center tunnel. Sonny opened his restaurant in 1958 after leaving his father's restaurant. Sonny Bryan's menu is traditional barbecue featuring pulled pork, ribs and chicken. Meals at Sonny Bryan's are not expensive and customers always get more than they can eat. The tunnel restaurant is just one of nine Sonny Bryan's restaurants in the Dallas area specializing in barbecue.

Fast Food

The tunnel system below Dallas's business district is also home to smaller restaurants. Scattered through out the tunnels are a Chic-Fil-a and various pizza restaurants, as well as an Asian restaurant specializing in sushi and Japanese cuisine.
