The Yamaha Riva 125, also know as the XC 125, was first introduced to scooter riders in 1985. Boasting a sharp design and 125 cc engine that offers fuel economy to the tune of 80 miles per gallon, the Riva became a popular choice for scooter riders. The Riva continued production until 2001, and saw a brief revival in 2006, before being retired from Yamaha's line-up. The Riva is often compared against its at-the-time contemporary, the Honda Elite 150.

Engine

The Yamaha Riva 125 sports an air-cooled, 124 cc, single-cylinder four-stroke engine, with a single overhead cam valve-train. There are two valves in the cylinder, and the engine features a 22 mm Teikei carburetor. This wet sump lubricated engine is capable of producing 11.4 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and generates 7.97 ft.-lbs. of torque at 6,500 rpm. The cylinder bore in this engine measures 49 mm, and has a 66 mm stroke. The compression ratio on this engine is 10.0-to-1.

Transmission & Drive

The Yamaha Riva 125 features a v-belt automatic transmission. Primary drive power is delivered to the rear wheel through a belt drive system.

Suspension & Brakes

The front wheel of the Yamaha Riva 125 features a bottom-link telescopic fork suspension, with an oil-damped coil spring shock absorber and 3.3 inches of travel. The rear wheel features unit swing suspension, with a gas-charged oil-damped coil spring shock absorber with 2.8 inches of travel. Both the front and rear wheels are equipped with 130 mm drum brakes.

Wheels & Tires

Both of the wheels on the Yamaha Riva 125 are made of cast aluminum, and measure 10 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches thick. The front wheel is fitted with a tubeless 3.5-10 4PR tire, while the rear is equipped with a 3.5-10 reinforced tire.

The Yamaha Riva 125 is 74 inches long, 25.6 inches wide, and 43.1 inches high. The wheelbase measures 49.2 inches, and the scooter has a seat height of 29.9 inches. The Riva clears the ground at 4.3 inches, and has a dry weight of 209 lbs. The Riva's maximum carrying capacity is 370 lbs., including passengers and cargo. The fuel tank is capable of holding 1.8 gallons of regular, unleaded gasoline.
