2002 Ford F150 Oil Specifications

There is also a supercharged version of the 5.4-liter V8 used for the F150 "Lightning" model. Despite the different engines, the oil specifications for the 2002 Ford F150 are the same.
Oil Specifications
Ford recommends using Motorcraft brand "Premium Synthetic Blend" 5W-20 motor oil. Motorcraft is the brand of oil sold by Ford Motor Company. You can, however, use any comparable oil certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Do not use an oil with a viscosity and weight rating different than 5W-20.
Oil Capacity
The Ford F150 is available with several engines; however, each of the engines has the same oil capacity. The engine oil capacity is six quarts (5.7 liters).
Checking the Oil
Park your F150 on level ground, and shut the engine off to check the oil. Find the dipstick on the driver's side of the engine compartment. The handle is shaped like a "T" on the 4.2-liter engine; it's shaped like an "O" on the 5.4-liter and 4.6-liter engines. Lift the dipstick handle to remove the dipstick and wipe it clean. Reinsert the dipstick fully, and immediately retract it. Inspect the marking at the end of the dipstick. The oil level should be between "Full" and "Low." If it's low, add a bit of oil into the "Engine Oil" cap. If it's too high, contact a professional. Do not drive the F150 with too much oil.
