The beach has always been a romantic barefoot paradise. In Florida, white sandy beaches lure visitors to the Sunshine State year-round. The dream of spending your getaway time relaxing in a secluded cottage feet from the ocean is compelling. From the Clearwater Beach area down to the Keys, lush tropical landscapes and gardens bursting with colorful flowers compete for your attention with beautiful sunsets on the Gulf of Mexico at a handful of secluded beachfront cottages.
Sarah's Seaside Cottages
Sarah’s Seaside Cottages are located on Indian Rocks Beach on the Gulf of Mexico, about half an hour’s drive from Tampa. They are secluded luxury cottages surrounded by lush tropical landscaping and flowering gardens. Dating back to 1910, the cottages reflect the quaint charm of “Old Florida,” updated with modern amenities. There are 14 cottages located directly on the beach and are among the few cottages still left in the area after condos started to be built on the valuable beachfront. In addition to private beach access, the complex includes a pool, cabanas, grills and complimentary kayaks. Indian Rocks Beach is part of a chain of barrier islands that stretches from Clearwater Beach south to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
The Moorings Village
Originally built in 1936 as a coconut plantation, the Moorings is located on the Atlantic side of the Florida Keys, halfway between Miami and Key West. Situated on 18 lush beachfront acres, the property includes 18 uniquely decorated, luxurious cottages. Quiet seclusion is actively promoted by management: “We believe you’ll get an honest taste of what life is all about in the laid-back American Caribbean islands called the Florida Keys.“ Islamorada is known as the “sport fishing capital of the world.” Tuna, marlin, mahi-mahi and grouper are much sought after in local waters. “Travel and Leisure” has featured the Moorings as their second best destination in “50 Best Romantic Getaways 2010.” Their list includes romantic vacation destinations from around the world.
Turtle Beach Resort
Frommer’s calls Turtle Beach Resort “one of Florida’s most romantic retreats.” The 10 cottage resort is located on the bay side of Siesta Key, a short walk to Turtle Beach on the Gulf side. Each cottage has its own private enclosed courtyard with hot tub and hammock. Complimentary robes, sherry wine, kayaks, canoes, fishing gear, bicycles, and beach chairs are available. If you arrive by boat, docks are available. Siesta Key is a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico just off Sarasota. Dr. Beach named Siesta Beach the number two beach in the United States for 2010. Turtle Beach is at the southern tip of the eight-mile long island.
