How Get to the Howling Fjord and the Borean Tundra in "World of Warcraft"

Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra are the lowest level zones in Northrend, the continent introduced in "World of Warcraft's" second expansion, "Wrath of the Lich King." While anyone can get to these zones, they're best suited for players level 68 or higher looking to quest, or anyone farming the first tier of Northrend profession materials. Generally, getting to these zones requires a ride on an Alliance icebreaker ship or a Horde zeppelin, although there are a couple of alternatives.

Alliance: Boats to Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra

Alliance players can reach Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra by riding one of the two Alliance icebreaker ships making their way to Northrend. A ship in Menethil Harbor makes regular trips to Valgarde, the Alliance hub in Howling Fjord, while a ship in Stormwind Harbor carries travelers to Valiance Keep in Borean Tundra. These ships can easily be distinguished by their paddle wheels and eagle-like figureheads. Both Valgarde and Valiance Keep feature a full complement of profession, flight masters, vendors and inns, as well as the first quests available to Alliance players in their respective zones.

Horde: Zeppelins to Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra

Horde players can make the trip to Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra via two specialized zeppelins. The towers near Undercity host the zeppelin to Vengeance Landing in Howling Fjord, while a tower in Orgrimmar offers flights to Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra. These zeppelins are distinct from others, featuring bladed battering rams and a shark-like paint job on the balloon. Like the Alliance hubs in these zones, Vengeance Landing and Warsong Hold both feature profession trainers, flight masters, vendors and inns, as well as starting quests for Horde players.

Alternate Transportation

There are a couple other ways to get to Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra. Mages can use "Teleport: Dalaran" and "Portal: Dalaran" to reach the floating city of Dalaran in Crystalsong Forest and hop a flight-point to Howling Fjord or Borean Tundra. "Jaina's Locket," a reward given as part of the Shadowmourne legendary weapon quest, also creates a portal to Dalaran. Summoning stones at Northrend dungeons and raids, as well as the warlock spell "Ritual of Summoning," can also be used to summon you, although they require two and three people, respectively.

Points of Interest

If you're looking to try out some Northrend dungeons, Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra both play host to a few of Northrend's earlier dungeons. Howljing Fjord features Utgarde Keep and Utgarde Pinnacle, while Borean Tundra hosts The Oculus and The Nexus. If you're aiming to perform a short raid, Borean Tundra features the Eye of Eternity, which only has one boss and the chance for two mounts to drop. You can also level your mining while in Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra farming Cobalt ore, and your herbalism in Borean Tundra picking Goldclover and Tiger Lily.
