There are, by my count, at least seven levels of fried chicken. The worst of them is good; the best, which I waited forty-four years to find, led to what can only be called an out-of-body experience. Let’s start at …
Themed Dinner Party Menu Ideas
Dinner parties are a cheaper alternative to throwing a full-blown party. Only a small number of guests receive invitations to the party, which helps save money on food costs. Offering inexpensive appetizers helps fill up your guests and saves you even more money overall. The theme inspires the dinner menu and brings the party elements together as a cohesive whole. Does this Spark an idea?

Thanksgiving in Summer (or Spring)
-
Host a Thanksgiving-themed dinner party any time of the year, even if the holiday is still months away. Cook a turkey large enough to feed your guests and make traditional side dishes. Mashed potatoes, gravy, baked yams with marshmallows, stuffed mushrooms and green bean casserole are just a few options. Stick to the same type of food that you would for a traditional Thanksgiving event. Serve pumpkin pie with whipped topping and apple pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Ask guests to bring their favorite appetizers and desserts to share.
Friday the 13th Party
-
Friday the 13th comes only a few times a year, and that's reason enough to celebrate with a dinner party. Decorate your home with traditionally unlucky items, such as a fake ladder posed over the front door and a fake broken mirror in the dining room. Serve food in black bowls and use black placemats on the tables. Offer food that seems gross in nature but is actually delicious. Cockroach dip, which is a combination of garlic, wheat bread and lemon juice is one option. Stuffed olives can also be trimmed and shaped to resemble bugs. Use your imagination and create foods that remind guests of what happens when they have an unlucky day.

TV Dinner Party
-
Offer your dinner party guests food served in metal trays or provide the trays and let them fill with their favorite choices of the food offerings. These metal trays are available from most party supply stores and look similar to the ones found in old frozen TV dinners. Make dishes reminiscent of those found in TV dinners, including fried chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, chicken fried steak and Salisbury steak. Offer traditional side dishes with a modern day twist, such as macaroni and cheese made with multiple types of cheese, garlic mashed potatoes or smashed potatoes. An apple crisp, berry crisp or even freshly baked brownies serve as the end to the meal.
