Stock clerks provide valuable services to many retail department and grocery stores. If you have excellent organizational skills and can easily talk to others, you might consider a career as a stock clerk. Stock clerks keep businesses clean, in order and running efficiently.

Excellent Customer-Service Skills

  • Stock clerks must be able to communicate effectively with customers and answer customers' questions correctly and with ease. You must be able to maintain a positive attitude towards customers and help them in any way that they ask.

Know Your Merchandise Well

  • Stock clerks should be able to examine the merchandise in the store and identify which items need to be reordered or replaced. Familiarity with all store merchandise is a must. You must be able to receive and unpack store merchandise while comparing the merchandise to the invoices to make sure that shipments are correct.

Keep the Store Attractive and Clean

  • Stock clerks are responsible for keeping the store clean and looking nice. You should be able to make an attractive display of items that entice a customer to purchase them. You must be able to correctly and completely clean display shelves, cases and store aisles.
