Teenagers often don't want to play the silly party games kids and tweens enjoy. Instead, they desire other sources of stimulation and activities which involve more mature concepts. Play into a teen's favorite things such as food, music, mystery and competition. Set up activities that will make teens interact and allow them to show off their creative side and explore a bit of danger while still keeping teens safe and under adult supervision.
Laser Tag or Paintball
Set up a laser tag party or paintball party. Have it at a facility or in your own backyard and neighborhood. A laser tag party can be done inside the house with the lights turned off or outdoors at night. Just make sure you get approval from your neighbors or at least warn them so they won't be frightened seeing people running around with "weapons."
Murder Mystery Dinner Party
Purchase a murder mystery kit. You can find these online as well as in many toy and hobby shops. Assign all the guests an identity ahead of time and ask them to dress up accordingly. Have a couple friends or family members work as waiters and serve dinner while the murder mystery begins. Teens will love being a part of and trying to solve the mystery of "whodunit."
At Home Concert
Hire a local band or singer to come entertain the teens and put on a concert. Set up a small stage in your backyard, hang Christmas lights and set up a bar with sodas, fruity virgin drinks and root beer. They'll feel like they're at a real concert rocking out.
Put together a video scavenger hunt. Make a list of things each team has to film as well as activities they have to film such as asking a person for directions, playing on the swings at the park and a person walking a dog. Give each item on the list a points value depending upon how difficult it is to capture on video. Give the teams a time limit to get as many things as they can. The team who scores the highest wins.
Host a casino party. Hire a casino company to bring in tables and dealers. Have blackjack, roulette, craps and poker. Give all the teens fake money to play with. Offer incentive prizes such as the person with the most money at the end of the night gets a pair of movie tickets and a gift card for dinner.
