The Windows 7 operating system includes an accessory, called "Snipping Tool," that can copy selected areas from a document or Web page. The area you select can be as small as one word or as large as the entire screen. For example, to send your email recipient part of an Excel worksheet, you can snip and copy a range of cells to your Outlook message without sending the whole workbook.

Step 1

Open a document or Web page where you wish to copy with the Snipping Tool.

Step 2

Click the "Start" button, type "Snipping Tool" in the search text box and click "Snipping Tool" from the results list. The "Snipping Tool" dialog window opens. The screen appears translucent.

Step 3

Click the arrow beside the "New" button to show the snipping options, such as "Rectangular Snip."

Step 4

Click to select the snipping option. The cursor transforms accordingly.

Step 5

Click and drag the cursor to surround the selected area on the document or Web page. A line surrounds and copies your selected area to the Snipping Tool markup area.

Step 6

Click the arrow next to the "Send Snip" button on the menu bar. The "Send Snip" button displays a red circled text and an open envelope. You can also click the "File" menu to display a menu. A short list of options appears.

Step 7

Click to select "E-mail Recipient" or "E-mail Recipient (as attachment)." The Outlook message screen appears. The selected area copies in the message body or as an email attachment. The "Subject" text box displays "Sent from Snipping Tool."

Step 8

Update your message and Subject text box.
