Decorating a kid's room is often a matter of designing around a theme that interests the child at the time. Everything from animals and science to a particular landscape or character can reflect a child's personality. Superman and other superheroes are also perennial favorites that can make the room a fun place to play and sleep.
Parents can give a room a Superman theme without buying a single item when they paint the room in the right colors. Bright shades of royal blue, primary yellow and candy-apple red form the basis of Superman's uniform and classic "S" logo. Blue may be the most appropriate color for walls, with red and yellow on the doors, wood trim or forming a striped border near the ceiling.
When the bed is central to the room, a Superman bedspread may be the one item that helps create a Superman theme without many other expensive additions. Superhero bedspreads usually come in a standard twin size, and while they may cost a bit more than a standard bedspread, they are still a necessary item that is already part of a bedroom's budget.
When a SUperman bedspread wears out, a skilled quilter can turn it into a wall hanging or quilt, harvesting any undamaged Superman images or logos and adding them to the appropriate blue, red and yellow fabric.
Oversize wall stickers are a cost-effective alternative to Superman wallpaper or even a small wallpaper border. These stickers, which peel off without damaging paint, are sometimes several feet wide and tall enough to stretch from floor to ceiling. Putting a large Superman likeness or "S" logo on one wall can make the Superman theme obvious to guests and also serve as a backdrop for a shelf of accrued Superman toys.
Decorating with Comics
Superman comics have been around for decades, with thousands of issues printed and read once before being relegated to comic book shops, used book stores and flea markets. Most Superman comics have little value and a smart shopper can find them for just a few dollars per issue (less if damaged covers or missing pages). Old comics can become the basis for a collage or serve as reference for a paint color scheme. They can also make a Superman-themed paper mache when mixed with flour and water, useful for any sort of craft project.
