With little planning required, pet owners no longer have to feel guilty about leaving their pets behind when they venture off to a vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Realty companies like Sun Realty, Cola Vaughan Realty and Twiddy will allow pet owners to truly take the entire family on vacation.

    • Sun Realty offers homes throughout the Outer Banks in towns such as Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk. Good Vibrations, located in Kill Devil Hills, is a 3-bedroom, 2-bath rental home located close to Avalon Pier. Good Vibrations is advertised as pet friendly, but Sun Realty emphasizes well-behaved dogs are preferred. Gates are included to keep pets securely inside and the house contains renovated baths and constantly updated furniture. Sun Realty offers homes like the Salty Dog in Kitty Hawk. This home has several features designed just for vacationers with pets, such as a platform in the outdoor shower for dog baths, on-site dog crates and supplied dog bowls and pickup bags.

    Cola Vaughan Realty

    • Cola Vaughan offers several beachfront cottages and homes that are pet friendly. Homes like Kite Flyer and Just Beachy include ocean views, grills and deck furniture and do not require a pet fee. However, some of the pet-friendly homes Cola Vaughan offers do require a pet fee. Remodeled and renovated homes like the Morris-White Cottage and Stephanies Cottage do require a $100 pet fee. Stephanies Cottage is an ocean-front cottage with a wraparound deck that includes three suite areas. This six-bedroom, three-bath home is located close to the city but in a non-commercial neighborhood for families looking for a quiet time in the Outer Banks. Rates at Stephanies Cottage fluctuate depending on the time of year, but during the prime summer season rates can go as high as $2,995 per week. In the off season, Stephanies can be rented weekly for as little as $995.

    • Twiddy Rentals has been around since the late 1978 and now provides rental homes in Corolla, Duck and Southern Shores in the Outer Banks. Twiddy Rental Homes specializes in large homes that feature 8- and 9-bedroom layouts. The Alfana in Corolla is one pet-friendly beach front home offered by Twiddy. The home features six master suites and a total of nine bedrooms and eight baths. The home features a private pool and sun bathing decks. No additional fee is charged at this house for pets, but the Alfana does not allow cats and there is a two-dog maximum. The Dune Crest is an oceanfront house located in Southern Shores. There is no fee for pets at this home but the home only allows for one dog. Homes like Dune Crest run anywhere from $2,295 to $8,495 per week while larger homes with more features like the Alfana can run between $2,450 and $15,435 per week.
