NetZero DSL Features
Digital subscriber line, or DSL, service is a high-speed Internet service delivered over the traditional copper telephone lines that most homes are equipped with. The telecommunications company NetZero offers DSL Internet service in many areas of the United States. The service provides a variety of features, some of which other companies do not offer.

Free Antivirus Program
-
All levels of DSL service offered by NetZero come with a free copy of Norton AntiVirus, according to the NetZero website. A service license, which allows users to receive updates and upgrades to the program, is included as long as the user maintains DSL service with NetZero. Unfortunately, the Norton AntiVirus program is limited to computers running Windows operating systems and will not work for Apple or Linux users. Norton AntiVirus is also criticized by some computer experts for reporting false positives and being slow to update detections for new computer viruses and security threats.
Email Service
-
Users who sign up for NetZero's DSL service receive an email account through the company. This email account is capable of receiving emails with embedded video, which many other email programs are not capable of doing. NetZero also says that all of its email accounts are protected against unwanted spam and spyware. Users do not have to use the email account provided by NetZero. They can access their existing email accounts through their browser or a email program like Outlook Express or Mozilla's Thunderbird.
24/7 Tech Support
-
NetZero's website states that the company provides live technical support for all DSL subscribers 24 hours a day. This tech support is delivered through live chat, although subscribers can also call the company during normal business hours to speak to a technical support specialist over the phone. The support offered by the company is limited to issues with the NetZero DSL program and equipment.
Modem
-
In most cases, customers who sign up for new DSL service through NetZero will receive the modem needed to connect their computer to the Internet for free. The NetZero website warns that this is not true in all areas. The modem connects to the phone line through which the DSL service is delivered and to your computer, creating a stable Internet connection. Only the modem offered by NetZero will work with NetZero service.
Three Levels of Speed
-
NetZero's DSL service is offered at three speed levels. Each level of speed offers different download speeds, which affects how quickly Web pages and Internet videos will load. The cost of each level rises as the speed does. The slowest and least-expensive level is called DSL Saver and offers download speeds up to 768 kilobytes per second. The middle level runs up to 1.5 megabytes per second and is referred to as DSL Speedsaver 25X. DSL Pro 50X is the fastest and most-expensive level of service offered by NetZero. It reaches download speeds of 3 megabytes per second.
