A summer party for adults does not have to be a backyard barbecue. Although that summer standard can certainly be fun, consider thinking outside the box and throwing a more original party. Some of the party themes that kids love can be switched around a bit and made perfect for adults.
Pool parties aren't just for kids. Invite your friends over for an afternoon of fun in the sun beside your pool. Without kids around, you and your guests will be able to relax by the pool, float around and chat. Provide plenty of adult cocktails. Frozen margaritas and daiquiris are great poolside. Grill some shrimp, fish and vegetables later on for a light meal.
Host a luau in your backyard. Give everyone a lei when they arrive. You can even provide grass skirts for the women to wear. Put tiny paper umbrellas in the cocktails you serve and decorate the area with tiki torches. As for food, include plenty of tropical fruits, such as pineapples and mangoes. Pork is a popular Hawaiian food, so consider grilling some pork chops for dinner or serving pork tenderloin on skewers.
Have everyone over for a summertime Mexican fiesta. Throw this party on your patio or in your yard. Set up a buffet with all sorts of Mexican favorites, such as chips and salsa, guacamole and cheese dip. Provide a taco bar where your guests can make their own tacos just how they like them. You can't have a Mexican fiesta for adults without margaritas. Serve them frozen and on the rocks in colorful plastic margarita glasses.
