Crazy Birthday Party Ideas

Save

Whether planning your own birthday party or a party for a friend, one thing is probably true--you don't want a run-of-the-mill event. You are looking for something out of the ordinary, something special, something crazy. You have gone through typical ideas like costume parties in your head a thousand times, but can't think of anything that really pops. Fear not, for there are several ways to make you or your loved one's birthday party crazy.

Anything But Clothes

  • At every party you attend this year, you will see people in sharp outfits. One way to make your birthday party something crazy is to ban clothes. However, this does not mean a roomful of people in the nude. Instead, they will have to design their own attire using anything but clothes. Encourage them to use the craziest fabrics possible--anything their imaginations can conceive--from tin foil to fake money. Consider giving prizes for the most creative fabric.

Go Ugly

  • Another crazy party idea is to dress as ugly as possible. This can go beyond mere outre fashions like "Cosby" sweaters and acid-washed jeans. Instead, this type of party can be a Halloween-any-time-of-year type of event, with guests showing up with mullet wigs, glue-on warts and anything else they can think of to make themselves as unattractive as possible.

The Speak-easy

  • Retro decade parties are a popular way of spending a birthday. However, while many people think to celebrate the '80s, '70s, '60s, '50s or other decades in relatively recent memory, few think about celebrating in the style of the Golden Age of Jazz. A Prohibition-era themed party gives people an excuse to dress up with the class of the era. Getting them to dance will not be too difficult with the dance-friendly sounds of the 1920s. Encourage people to bring their booze in hip flasks and talk in period slang. Having a bonfire can add an extra touch of authenticity.

Return to Infancy

  • Many people think about returning to childhood. Why not take this to its logical conclusion and have everyone revert to infancy? Encourage them to show up in diapers, onesies or footed pajamas. Childlike activities like fingerpainting will be the order of the day and the television will show favorites for young children. Background music can include any favorite children's songs from your own youth.
