Drinking Games
-
If you're over 21, you may be watching the Super Bowl with a healthy dose of libations on hand--encourage at bit of social drinking among your friends with a simple drinking game. There are two ways to play, the first of which is a game of chance. Write down common football terms, like "touchdown" and "coach," on pieces of paper and drop them in a bucket. Each guest chooses a word at random, and must take a drink anytime the commentator uses that word. The other way to play encourages everyone to drink equally. Create a list of football terms--about 10 or 15--and assign them point values based on their commonality. For example, every time the commentator says "pass," you may take a drink, but every time he says "Lombardi," you take a shot. Be responsible in your choices--if you take a shot every time they say a word like "ball," you won't remember much past the first couple of plays. When playing drinking games, make sure that everyone stays safe and doesn't overindulge, and make sure there are designated drivers who haven't been drinking to take people home after the party.
Football Toss
-
Younger football fans may enjoy some friendly competition before the big game. Set up a hula hoop or another type of makeshift goalpost outside and have guests stand a reasonable distance away. Guests can take turns trying to throw the ball through the hula hoop without touching the sides. If you live in a colder climate, you can play this game indoors with a smaller goalpost and a soft foam football--just play away from anything breakable, like the flat-screen TV.
Bucket Pass
-
This simple game of wagering encourages guests to make on-the-fly guesses about the outcome of a given play. Start by dropping a dollar in a bucket and holding on to the bucket. Before a play starts, if you think that the play will result in a touchdown, say "touchdown." If it does, you empty the bucket, keep the cash, and pass it on to another player. If it does not, you forfeit the bucket with the cash inside and pass it on to another player who drops in a dollar and holds on until she makes her own guess.
