Off the coast of Sarasota, Florida, lies Siesta Key. This barrier island is nestled between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico, and is known for unbelievable white sand beaches. In fact, in 2011, Siesta Key Beach was ranked the top beach in America by Dr. Beach. When it comes to finding accommodations for a sunshine filled vacation, there are plenty to choose from: rented condos, timeshares, resorts and even a campground. Here are the top five, based on ratings from travelers and travel experts.

Turtle Beach Resort and Inn

On the South end of Siesta Key sits Turtle Beach Resort and Inn. Frommer's gave this resort its highest marks, calling it "one of Florida's most romantic retreats." The rooms are studios and cottages, and each has its own private hot tub and hammock. Bikes, kayaks and canoes are available to guests for free, and pets of all shapes and sizes are welcome with a small fee.

Hyatt Siesta Key Beach, a Hyatt Residence Club

Another highly rated choice is the Hyatt Siesta Key Beach, which has won awards for its interior design and overall destination as a timeshare. The suites are either two or three bedrooms, and include a full-size refrigerator, a gas stove, an espresso machine and a dishwasher. There's a pool and an exercise room, as well as several restaurants and a grocery store, so you really never have to leave the property if you don't want to.

Tropical Breeze Resort

Tropical Breeze is another Frommer's favorite; the rooms are all walking distance to the beach and close to the shops and restaurants on Ocean Boulevard. Rooms vary from a standard size to multi-room suites, and there's even a beach cottage and beach house available. There are three heated pools on the property, and they are also pet friendly.

The Capri at Siesta

The Capri at Siesta is a small boutique hotel that has garnered plenty of top reviews from visitors. There are only 10 rooms here, ranging from the Studio that sleeps up to two people to the Deluxe Suite that sleeps up to five. All have a kitchenette and complimentary wi-fi. There's a heated pool and a volleyball court, as well as private beach access just steps away.

Tropical Shores

Tropical Beach Resorts owns three separate Siesta Key resorts: Tropical Shores, Tropical Sun and Sara Sea. All have good visitor reviews, but Tropical Shores has also been rated highly by AAA. The different rooms accommodate from one to six people, and include flat screen TVs. There's a swimming pool and barbecue areas on site, and Crescent Beach is just down the street.
