Place Setting Ideas for Weddings
Place settings are meant for dining, but they can also be a significant part of your reception's decor. Each piece of a wedding place setting can be used as part of an overall design that expresses your wedding's style. Creative color schemes and whimsical place card holders add flair to seemingly mundane things like plates and flatware.

Royal Purple
-
A glamorous purple-and-gold color scheme can work especially well with a fall wedding. Use dark purple table linens and gold chargers. Add gold-rimmed china and dark purple glassware. Finish with gold napkin rings. To complete the autumn look, slide the place cards into gold spray-painted twigs stuck in small glass votive holders filled halfway with purple vase crystals.
Tropical Getaway
-
A subtle tropical look can be exotic and elegant at the same time. Start with beige or cream-colored tablecloths and rich brown place mats. Add dark wicker or gold chargers and pure white china. Tie simple flatware together with gold organza ribbon. Complete the look with a name card propped up with a bold-colored tropical flower in a small vase.
Frosty Formal
-
Go with an icy color scheme for a sleek, modern look. Start with light blue tablecloths and matching chair slipcovers. Add white napkins, clear glass chargers, and white silver-rimmed china. Display place cards in small silver picture frames that can double as favors.
For the Birds
-
Celebrate a spring wedding with an avian theme. Use white or cream-colored tablecloths and chocolate-brown napkins. Add clear glass chargers and light blue china. Fill small, clear glass Mason jars halfway with coffee beans and stand a votive candle in each one. Affix written labels to them or use them to prop up place cards. Place a miniature bird's nest (available at craft stores) next to each charger and drop three pastel-colored Jordan almonds in each one.
Perfect Pink
-
A soft, feminine table starts with a white tablecloth topped with a petal-pink table runner. Use clear glass chargers, pink plates, and white napkins. Slip a sweet pea or lily of the valley blossom under a brass napkin ring. For a finishing touch, place each name card in an unfolded Japanese fabric fan.
Aqua/Red
-
A base of white table linens and white china sets the stage for a dramatic red and aqua contrast. Wrap aqua colored ribbon around red napkins. Use adhesive dots to keep a red millinery bird perched on top of each place card. Tuck each name card under the ribbon. Tie red ribbon around the silverware.
