Family Night Gift Basket Ideas

Instead of giving everyone a separate gift, give the whole family a gift basket. Family nights encourage everyone to spend time together. Tailor the basket so there is a little something for everyone. Creative packaging ties the gift together with its theme.

Movie Basket

  • Movie baskets are suitable for any time of year. Include a one or two favorite DVDs or provide a membership to a video store or online DVD rental service. If everyone is fond of a particular movie genre, add a book of movie trivia so family time doesn't end when the film is over. Don't forget snacks. Include microwave or gourmet popcorn and a box of theater-size candy for each family member. For young children, include a classic or favorite kid's movie and a small toy or coloring book that features the characters in the movie. Use a popcorn tub instead of the usual basket. You can get the tub from a theater or purchase plastic reusable popcorn tubs from home and kitchen stores.

Game Night Basket

  • The family that plays together stays together. Fill the basket with a board game, puzzles or other sit-down games. Add in some popcorn, gourmet nuts or a party trail mix to snack on. Include pads and pens if the game requires score keeping; or puzzle glue and a puzzle mat with a puzzle. For more active families, give a game night basket featuring outdoor games such as a badminton set, frisbees and balls.

Food Basket

  • Supply an entire meal or the ingredients for a special treat. Fill the basket with hot cocoa, mugs, a cookie recipe and ingredients and some cookie cutters so everyone can spend time in the kitchen whipping up the treat. Put the items in a decorative tin instead of a basket. A summertime picnic basket allows everyone to enjoy a meal in the great outdoors instead of spending time in a hot kitchen. Include crackers and cheese, fruits, cold cuts and bread rolls. Add a a ground cloth and some utensils, then package it all in a picnic basket.

Fondue is a fun food for nearly all ages. Package cheeses and fondue chocolate inside a fondue pot. Include fondue forks, crusty bread, strawberries and other dippable items to round out the basket.
